A Modern Wet Room Conversion in Hockley Heath

We were contacted by homeowners in Hockley Heath who wanted to modernise their bathroom and resolve issues caused by the existing shower enclosure layout.

The previous bathroom featured a three-sided shower enclosure positioned awkwardly within the room. This created a narrow gap around the enclosure that was extremely difficult to clean and made the bathroom feel more cramped than it needed to be.

The aim of the project was to redesign the layout and create a modern wet room that would be easier to maintain, improve day-to-day usability, and give the bathroom a much cleaner and more contemporary appearance.

The Customers Situation

The existing shower enclosure layout left a narrow space between the wall and the enclosure that was extremely difficult to clean. Over time this became increasingly frustrating for the homeowners and made the bathroom feel poorly designed. They wanted a solution that would simplify the layout, improve accessibility, and create a much more modern and practical bathroom.

Our Assessment & Recommended Solution

Following a free home survey and design visit, we assessed the existing bathroom layout and discussed the homeowner’s requirements in detail. The room originally featured an awkward shower enclosure and limited usable space, which made the layout feel cramped and impractical for everyday use. After reviewing the options, we recommended a full wet room conversion to remove the bulky enclosure and create a more open, accessible and functional bathroom environment.

As part of the redesign, we removed the existing boxing along the window wall, which immediately created additional floor space and improved the overall proportions of the room. New studwork was then installed to form a concealed service wall, allowing the pipework for the shower, toilet and basin to be neatly hidden from view. Concealing the plumbing not only improves the appearance of the room but also helps create a cleaner and more streamlined finish.

The result was a fully modernised wet room that makes much better use of the available space. With the shower area fully integrated into the room, the layout now feels open and uncluttered, while the use of easy-to-maintain surfaces ensures the bathroom remains practical for daily use. The finished design combines clean lines, improved functionality and a contemporary look that will continue to add comfort and value to the home for years to come.

The Installation & Handover Process

1

Consultation & Planning

We began with a free home survey at the property in Hockley Heath to assess the existing bathroom layout and discuss the homeowners’ goals for the space. A revised layout was created to remove the restrictive shower enclosure and introduce a more open wet room design. A clear fixed-price quotation was then provided along with an agreed installation schedule.

2

Wet Room Installation

Over a 7-day installation, we removed the existing bathroom and prepared the space for a new wet room layout. The project included Altro slip-resistant flooring, anthracite wall panels, a comfort-height toilet with concealed cistern, and a wall-hung vanity unit. A recessed mixer shower and glass screen defined the shower area, finished with an anthracite towel radiator and LED mirror.

3

Handover and Aftercare

Once the installation was complete, the bathroom was thoroughly cleaned and all waste materials removed. We demonstrated how to use the shower controls and fittings to ensure everything was clear and easy to operate. The installation is supported by our 24-month workmanship guarantee.
